Hot Guys, Fast Cars and the Cougar That Got Away

I have a thing for fast cars and hot guys. What woman wouldn't, right?

The thing is, I want to drive the fast cars, not drive in the fast cars with the hot guys. I want to be Letty from "The Fast & The Furious." The fact that she gets to fondle Vin Diesel is certainly a plus but what I really envy is her car.

I love American muscle cars though I've never owned one. As a teenager, my dad owned a used car lot and, before I turned 16, he bought a Mercury Cougar that was supposed to be mine. Unfortunately, my dad ran a business and someone offered him more money than he could pass up and the Cougar drove away. Don't cry for me, though, because I ended up with a Fiat Spyder convertible that I drove until the damn thing fell apart. I loved that car until I sold it but I never would have sold the Cougar.

Anyway, I just got back from seeing "Fast & Furious" and there were all of six people in the theater, only two of us without Y chromosomes. I had a blast but then I'm probably not your average female moviegoer. I like when things blow up. Yeah, I enjoy a good love story but add a couple car chases, some explosions and a few beat downs and I'm so there.

I adore anything Jason Statham happens to be in. I was there opening day when the first "Transporter" film opened because it had the requisite fast car and hot guy. I've seen all three. Numerous times.

There's been a lot of talk about movies for women and how there aren't any. Then along comes "Sex and the City" and "Mamma Mia." Too bad "Mamma Mia" sucked but wow, women are going to the movies again.

Bullshit. We've been going to the movies all along. How do you think "300" and "Fast & Furious" got to the No. 1 spot on the charts? Because just as many women as men went back a couple more times to see Gerard Butler's absolutely magnificent abs and Diesel's hulking bod. I loved the opening heist in "F&F" and if Paul Walker drives by and wants to take me through some tunnels, I'm hopping in the car, even if it is an import.

I've got a couple of other films lined up for the next few months, JJ Abrams "Star Trek" reboot and "Wolverine" among them. Maybe not so many fast cars, but whether they're shooting lasers or brandishing adamantium claws, Jim Kirk and Wolverine are going to kick some ass. And I'll be there, cheering them on.

No teenage wizards for me. Bring on the real men.

Good for you!

I do have a Y chromosome by the way. I also write film scripts.

When I decide what films to watch on TV, if the review says it contains bad language, sex, nudity, drug abuse, violence, gore and scenes of extreme terror - I'll watch it.

That's also the sort of stuff I write.

Good to know I'm not alienating the female half of the audience.

Thanks for stopping by, Paul. And I'm with you. If the movie or TV show is too clean, why bother? It doesn't reflect real life.

Great post, Steph. I'm an adrenaline junkie and love nothing better than an action film. Add a handsome face and hot bod to the melee and I'm happy.

I'm with you, Steph. Any movie that makes me gasp is one destined to be in my DVD collection on release day. Of course, the last movie I saw was "Monsters vs. Aliens", but the other day I snuck "The Lost Boys" into the DVD player when no one else was around.

So talk to me about the hot cars. (My dad was/is a shadetree mechanic.) Hot guys come and go, but a classic car is forever. I have a WIP with a heroine who's rebuilding a '69 Chevelle SS. Never been in one in person, since my dad favored foreign cars, but I saw it on the Barrett-Jackson Auctions and I had to pick my tongue up off the floor. I'd love to take a ride in one, but having owned a Dodge Challenger in my youth, I think I have a vague idea what it's like. (grin)

Great blog! Thanks!!

Love the blog and I'm right there with you. I'll go see Fast & Furious 5 because it's in the works now. I'd love an american muscle car but an SUV will have to do for now.

OMG, we were separated at birth. I love action movies with fast cars and hot guys. Jason Statham is a favorite fantasy, um, I mean actor. I don't do chick flicks. The more blood, fights, car chases, and things blowing up the better as far as I'm concerned.

I'm driving everyone around here crazy waiting for Star Trek and Wolverine. I keep saying, "Oohh, shiny," to my kids.
